“I went to Leeds to have a dinner with Michael at The Man Behind The Curtain and it was unbelievable. It had the Michelin star, and Michael had just won the Great British Menu,” recalls Gary.

“I spoke with him about maybe investing in the restaurant. At the end of the meal, he presented me with the bill, with a figure written upon it. He said ‘That’ll buy you 50% of this restaurant’. So we did a deal there and then. It was funny, it was clever and I believed in him as an individual and what he did. I’ve still got the bill somewhere.
